Evaluation of specific subject knowledge on entry
Verification of the possession of the curricular requirements with the methods indicated in the academic regulation of the course of study Foreign students who intend to enroll in Curriculum 1 (in Italian) are required to take a test to verify their proficiency of the Italian language, except Erasmus Incoming students, Exchange Students and students in mobility as per the Cooperation Agreement
Profile of the programme
The master Course includes two Curricula: Geologia Applicata alla Salvaguardia e alla Pianificazione del Territorio (curr. 1 provided in Italian) and Geosciences for Environmental Sustainability (curr. 2. provided in English). In each curriculum highly specialized topics are treated developed on a basis of strong scientific knowledge shared between the two paths. Teaching activities include traditional lectures, laboratory training, field activities, stages in private and public companies and educational stays abroad. Among the specialized course supplementary subjects are included mainly within the field of Applied Geology and Hydrogeological Risk for curr. 1 and in the field of Environmental and Geological Risks for curr. 2. The training path includes courses chosen by the student providing they are consistent with the educational project. The course prepares to the professional activity as a Senior Geologist.
Programme learning outcomes
Graduated students have got a strong scientific base and a deep knowledge of different geological processes, of methods for interpreting and processing geological data and of investigation techniques in the field of Earth Sciences. Graduate students can apply their knowledge of specialized methods in many fields of Earth Science and are able to interpret data and information in order to set plans in different areas of Earth Science and to properly represent data and results also by means of informatic systems.
Qualification requirements and regulations
The student is admitted to the final test after acquiring all credits imposed by the study plan but those relates to the dissertation (24 for curr. 1 and 27 for curr. 2). The test is public; it consists in the presentation to a commission of the thesis work. The thesis, which can be both bibliographic or experimental e, normally engages the student during the 2nd year of the course. The preparation of the thesis is aimed at developing in the student the ability of synthesis and autonomous organization of his work.
Examination regulations and grading scale
EXAMS - Evaluation: oral and/or written test - Possibility of intermediate tests - Other possible elements of evaluation: internships, participation in seminars - Voting: out of thirty (from 18/30 to 30/30, with possible honors for excellence) - Commission: at least two teachers, including the course owner (President) - Exam sessions: 8/year. FINAL TITLE. - Evaluation: discussion of the thesis - Evaluation elements: average of the marks of the exams, quality of the work done and of the discussion - Voting: out of one hundred and tenths (from 66/110 to 110/110, with possible honors for excellence) - Commission: 7 teachers of the degree course - Sessions: 6/year
Obligatory or optional mobility windows
It is possible to carry out internship activities abroad, within Research Bodies, Universities and companies operating in the sector, thanks to the Erasmus program, centrally supported. The mobility windows are not temporarily rigid, although it is preferred that the Students use them during the 2nd year of the course.
Work-based learning
Curriculum 1 includes a work-based experience which is carried out within public and private organizations operating in the field of geological engineering, territorial planning and water management. The organizations, which have an agreement with the course of study following an evaluation by the CCCS, give to the student a tutor who follows him during the stage. An internal tutor is also given to the student by the responsible for the stage program, chosen by the CCCS. At the end of the stage period the student hands a report on his activity for the final approval of the program.
Occupational profiles of graduates
The graduate student will be able to work as a professional person or to be employed in public Bodies and local authorities, within companies operating in the field of geological surveys in Italy or abroad, in public and private laboratories and in private and public research organizations. The Master course allows, upon passing the state exam for the qualification to practice the profession of Geologist, the enrollment in the professional register of the National Council of Geologists, with the qualification of Senior Geologist (Section A of register).
