Specific admission requirements
Formal Requirements Certificate of completion of Italian upper secondary school or equivalent foreign qualification.
Evaluation of specific subject knowledge on entry
The course is open access. Personal preparation for the degree course is verified through an orientation test relating to the written Italian language. The test takes place at the beginning of the academic year, lasts about 60 minutes and involves a series of questions, some with closed answer, others with open answer on spelling, grammar and syntax of the Italian language. It also provides a second part concerning comprehension and written production on a topic related to cultural heritage. Who has not taken and who has not passed this test is obliged to attend the following laboratory which will start after the publication of the test results. At the end of the laboratory activities, the students will take the test again. Foreign students are required to take a test to verify their proficiency of the Italian language, except Erasmus Incoming students, Exchange Students and students in mobility as per the Cooperation Agreement.
Profile of the programme
The degree course is organized into three curricula: Anthropology, Archeology and History of Art. The Course intends to form figures who possess a rigorous humanistic-literary preparation, appropriate linguistic knowledge and skills to orient themselves in the different areas of cultural heritage, using the basic tools to deal with problems associated with the different articulations of heritage and cultural activities . The knowledge and comprehension skills are acquired through lectures and also exercises, seminars, educational trips. To check students' knowledge and understanding, teachers use the profit assessments, which are written and / or oral.
Programme learning outcomes
Students acquire a rigorous basic training regarding the themes of cultural heritage, in particular in the areas of anthropology, archeology and history of art. They will be able to use the most up-to-date investigation methods and techniques in the main areas of cultural heritage; classify the types of cultural heritage and apply the specific instrumentation to each disciplinary area; conduct a scientific analysis of the problems of cultural heritage, being able to communicate its contents in oral and written form, also using IT equipment.
Qualification requirements and regulations
The student who achieves all the credits envisaged by the educational activities of the study plan is admitted to the final test. It must be taken as part of one of the courses of the study course in which the student took the exam. The final test consists in the drafting of a written paper (about 40 folders of 2000 characters with any equipment), which takes place under the guidance of a teacher / supervisor, with whom the topic and the methods of compiling and organizing the material are agreed. The material can only be bibliographic or also include original research on the topic. The discussion of the written paper is public and takes place in front of a special commission made up of seven members appointed from among the professors serving at the University.
Examination regulations and grading scale
Assessment is normally an oral or written exam; in some cases there are intermediate exams during the course; other evaluation elements (seminars, reports, etc.) can be foreseen in specific course units and are described in the Course Unit Profiles. The grades for subject exams are measured in thirtieths (0-30 scale), the minimum grade is 18/30 and the maximum grade is 30/30. The maximum grade can be enhanced with “cum laude” (30 cum laude), in case of excellence. Grades are given by an exam commission of at least two teachers, whose President is the chair of the subject. The main exam sessions are held in January/February, March/April, June/July, September/October. The main exam sessions are held in the months of January / February, June / July, September; the sessions of March / April and November / December are reserved for students out of course. Students may retake exams, if not passed. The University provides an ECTS Grading Table, which shows the actual distribution of the examination and final grades among students for each degree programme. The final degree evaluation is expressed in one hundred and tenths (0-110 scale), the minimum grade is 66/110 and the maximum grade is 110/110. The calculation of the final grade of each candidate takes into account the average of the grades obtained in the subject exams, as well as the quality of the work performed in research or in the final thesis which is discussed in public before an exam commission. “Cum laude” (110 cum laude) may be added to the maximum grade if the exam commission decides unanimously. In any case, the maximum score attributable to the final test is 5 points.
Obligatory or optional mobility windows
Erasmus exchanges concern third year students; however, students also have the option of anticipating the second year: the application can be submitted in the first year. The deadlines are in September (with departures from October) or in January (with departures from March). The periods of stay are flexible, and adaptable to the needs of the students: from a minimum of 3 months to a maximum of 12.
Work-based learning
The internship is an important training period in the student's experience. It can be done at Italian institutions, public and private, affiliated with the Dipartimento di Lettere, in particular located in Umbria (museums, superintendencies, art galleries, cultural associations, etc.), or abroad, at institutions with the which the Course has institutional relationships. Each internship credit corresponds to 25 hours of commitment. The internship is validated as part of the Additional training activities included in the study manifesto, which provide for a total of 9 ECTS. The activities are coordinated by the Department's Internship Office. After an initial orientation interview, the Office prepares the necessary documentation (it is available on the Department website). At the end of the activity, the trainee and the body that hosted him complete an evaluation questionnaire. As part of the internship, students of the Archeology curriculum are required to earn 6 ECTS by participating in archaeological excavation campaigns organized by the teachers of the Course.
Occupational profiles of graduates
The course is aimed at training professional figures capable of carrying out medium-level tasks in the field of conservation and enhancement of cultural heritage. In particular, they will be able to operate as professionals in the following public and private sectors: a) services, cultural and tourism industry, cultural institutes dealing with conservation and enhancement of cultural heritage; b) Public Administration (Superintendencies, Archives, Municipalities, Libraries and Ministries); c) Studies Offices, Personnel Departments, Press and Public Relations Services, Marketing Offices e advertising, cultural promotion.
