Evaluation of specific subject knowledge on entry
Verification of the knowledge required for the attendance of the course of study: the admission test is also valid as a test of initial knowledge and additional educational obligations acquisition. If the test is passed with deficencies, the student will be given additional educational obligations and will be granted with online alignment courses. Foreign students are required to take a test to verify their proficiency of the Italian language, except Erasmus Incoming students, Exchange Students and students in mobility as per the Cooperation Agreement
Profile of the programme
Professional fields: • diagnosis, treatment and prophylaxis of animal diseases • improvement of animal productions • animal welfare, public health and environmental protection • support to industrial development Disciplinary areas • Specific basic subjects (veterinary anatomy and physiology) • Animal production (breeding, genetics, animal nutrition) • Preclinics (anatomic-pathology, infectious and parasitic diseases, pharmacology) and Clinics (medical, surgical, obstetric and gynecological) • Food Hygiene Theoretical lessons and practical activities at the Department facilities or affiliated establishments as farms, kennels, industries, public and private national and foreign bodies (Erasmus et al.)
Programme learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding - basic subjects - animal breeding - pathophysiology, etiopathogenesis, diagnosis and therapy of animal diseases and zoonoses; - food hygiene Ability to apply knowledge and understanding The student must be able to detect the state of health, disease and the well-being of the single and farmed animal. He will be able to evaluate the hygiene and safety of production processes concerning food of animal origin
Qualification requirements and regulations
To be admitted to the final test for the achievement of the qualification, the student must have acquired all the credits required by the study plan The final test for the achievement of the qualification is public and consists in the presentation of a thesis. The theses are chosen by the student and can be experimental or a review. Participation in research projects is encouraged, which allows the preparation of experimental papers subject to scientific publications
Examination regulations and grading scale
Assessment is normally an oral exam, including written or practical test, depending on subject. The grades for subject exams are measured in thirtieths (0-30 scale), the minimum grade is 18/30. Exam commission is composed of at least two teachers. The final degree evaluation is expressed in one hundred and tenths (0-110 scale), the minimum grade is 66/110. Thesis commission is composed of at least seven teachers

Work-based learning
During Year 5, students are involved in 6 months of Professional Practical Training (PPT), consisting in 30 ECTS. PPT involves all clinical services of the central VTH Units (internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics), animal production, food quality and health safety, and avian pathology. The external practical training (EPT) is devoted explicitly to clinical activities in food-producing animals, animal production and management, and slaughterhouse activities. Regarding clinical activities performed at the VTH, including Emergency Service, the aim is to provide autonomy of judgment, communication abilities and "transversal" competencies
Occupational profiles of graduates
Veterinary practitioners, National Health Service, Public and private industry (zootechnics, pharmaceuticals, animal feed, control on the production and distribution of food of animal origin), local entities, international organizations, cooperation agencies and research entities.
