Specific admission requirements
Formal Requirements Italian First cycle qualification (Laurea) or foreign equivalent in the same or related subject area, with possible extra work if required competences are lacking
Evaluation of specific subject knowledge on entry
Verification of the possession of the curricular requirements with the methods indicated in the regulation of the course of study. Foreign students are required to take a test to verify their proficiency of the Italian language, except Erasmus Incoming students, Exchange Students and students in mobility as per the Cooperation Agreement
Profile of the programme
The course trains graduates with solid biological preparation and in-depth skills on the quality and safety of animal origin food products, protection of animal welfare, environmental impact, sustainable development, profitability of livestock systems and management of scientific and technological innovations. The training activities, organized on a six-monthly basis, include lectures, exercises, seminars and traineeships. The professional profile of the graduate falls within that provided for the profession of Agronomist (Presidential Decree 328/2001 and subsequent amendments), with job opportunities in all activities relating to livestock productions.
Programme learning outcomes
The graduate will know and understand the effect that a change to the livestock production system has on quality and quantity of animal production, on animal welfare, on environmental and economic sustainability; he/she will interpret the processes of the agro-livestock system and the supply chains of products of animal origin, using the a scientific method, and he/she will promote innovation; he/she will operate autonomously and responsibly, interfacing with various players.
Qualification requirements and regulations
In order to be admitted to the final exam for the achievement of the qualification, the student must have acquired all the other formative credits foreseen in the study plan. The final test is public: it consists of the multimedia presentation and the discussion in front of an appropriate commission of a thesis work, written under the guidance of a supervisor, on a topic of significant interest, chosen by the student also on the basis of the traineeship experience.
Examination regulations and grading scale
Exams take place according to criteria established by the single courses: the grade is out of thirty; the commission is chaired by the teacher. Evaluation of the final exam is in one hundred and tenths and takes into account the student's career too.
Obligatory or optional mobility windows
The CdLM encourages training periods at foreign universities and institutions, ensuring the full recognition of the credits obtained in the Erasmus + mobility program or the preparation of the degree thesis during the Erasmus Trainesheep program.
Work-based learning
The traineeship in preparation for the final exam includes 4 ECTS (can be increased to 5) and must take place in companies, public or private bodies, professional orders or colleges, which have signed a special agreement with the Department. Before starting the traineeship, the student must have obtained at least 30 ECTS and presented the training project, approved by a teacher-tutor; at the end of the traineeship, the student will present a report on the experience, which will be discussed with a specific commission.
Occupational profiles of graduates
The course prepares the profession of senior Agronomist, with the possibility of entering, as an employee or freelancer-consultant, in the management and control of production processes and the quality of the supply chain of the various animal productions: the graduate finds employment in zootechnical, agrolivestock or industrial companies, in the tertiary sector of the livestock production, in research, in public administration and in international organizations.
