- Requisitions of artistic made in Italy and in Europe by Napoleon in the period between 1797 and 1815 with an emphasis on Italian campaigns of 1796-1797 and 1811-1812 , the latter by Dominique - Vivant Denon , and in particular the case of Umbria . The course will explore the works requisitioned , together with sources of Italian art and French literature at the base of the collectings. In the course it will prove , in addition, as many other dynamics following, ranging from the destruction of the past , modernization , and re-ordering all'iperrestauro, were largely opened on the occasion of that crucial decade .

- Good knowledge of the works of art seized , the art literature related to them, the criteria for the choices made by the Napoleonic comissioners and history of collecting

- For an understanding of the topics discussed during the course, students must have a good knowledge of art history and the history of art criticism. This precondition is valid both for students attending and not attending

- The exam includes only the final oral test consisting of a discussion-inteview on the topics discussed during the course and examined in-depth through reccomended texts. The test aims at assuring the level of knowledge und understanding, as well as synthesis, achieved by the student. Moreover this interview will verify that the student is able to communicate, with method and propriety of language, what he has acquired. The duration of the test varies depending on the performance of the test itself and begins, as a rule, with a subject of the student's choice in order to put him at ease
- Extended program
- The course aims to analyze the dispersion of the rich Italian artistic heritage during the Napoleonic era, especially in the period between 1797 and 1815, when, as a result of the Treaty of Bologna and Tolentino, a large number of masterpieces of ancient and modern art Italian were transferred to the Louvre by the commissioners appointed by Napoleon. The course intends to examine this dispersion in relation to the Italian and French contemporary art literature and by relating it also with issues related to the history of collecting and museology. Particular attention will be paid to the situation in Perugia and Umbria.
