1. To know the dynamics of artistic activity in the nineteenth century and the relationships between schools, artist studios, the public and critics.

Attendance is highly recommended for students who graduate in Archeology and Art History.- Learning verification modality
Paper
(max 15,000 characters bibliography included) with an in-depth analysis on a topic of the course to be agreed with the teacher and to be presented as part of a seminar organized "in itinere".
Oral examination
The test, lasting about 30 minutes, includes questions on the topics covered in class starting from the recognition of the works, and a discussion on the texts indicated in the bibliography.
The ability to organize, rework and expose the contents appropriately through an adequate reading of the works will be verified.

Through the analysis of visual and written sources, the phases of the artist's training, the organization of the work, the self-representation in the various historical and cultural contexts, the interactions with collectors and critics will be deepened.
