Evaluation of specific subject knowledge on entry

Verification of the knowledge required for the attendance of the course of study through a compulsory evaluation test of indicative and non-selective nature; if the test is not passed, the student will be given additional educational obligations and will be granted with: • alignment courses, • tutoring, • online alignment courses, • study of additional texts indicated by the course of study. Foreign students are required to take a test to verify their proficiency of the Italian language, except Erasmus Incoming students, Exchange Students and students in mobility as per the Cooperation Agreement

Graduates in Nursing are the health professionals who are responsible for the attributions provided by the italian law (Ministry of Health n. 739 of 14/9/94). Graduates in Nursing are responsible for general preventive, curative, palliative and rehabilitative assistance, of a technical, relational and educational nature; their functions will be prevention and health education, assistance, therapeutic education, management, training, research and consultancy. Graduates in Nursing promote and spread the culture of health in the community, plan and implement in collaboration with other professional figures, training and educational interventions aimed at the person (child, adult and geriatric), at the family and at the community. The didactic forms foreseen include lectures, seminars, working groups and discussion on relevant topics and simulations aimed at pursuing the objectives of the training path. The traditional teaching activity is flanked by the internship guided by public health services and private structures linked by specific agreements. This training allows a progressive assumption of responsibility and professional autonomy, in which students acquire the ability to evaluate the various problems related to nursing care, to plan the correct assistance, to integrate into a team work by cooperating with the various figures involved in the care sector in the various contexts of public health. The laboratory and traineeship activities are carried out with the supervision and guidance of professional tutors specially designated on the basis of relevant communication skills, adequately trained for this function. Laboratory and internship activities are coordinated by a teacher belonging to the highest educational level required for the profiles of the specific class. The study plan includes 20 final exams, organized as integrated exam tests. The verification of this learning is assessed through exam tests, articulated not only in the traditional modalities of the oral or written exam, but also in a sequence of ongoing tests (self-assessment tests and intermediate interviews), useful for verifying the knowledge acquired. With regard to written tests, the tools used are: (1) multiple choice tests or short written answers, organized on interdisciplinary problems, followed by useful exams to ascertain the skills acquired; (2) drafting of written papers on assigned topics and analysis of the activities and papers relating to the final exam. The didactic regulation of the Degree Course defines, in compliance with the regulatory limits, that the share of the total hourly commitment available to the student for personal study or other individual formative activities will not be less than at least 50% of the thirty hours provided for each CFU. 1st year: aimed at providing basic biomedical and hygienic knowledge, the foundations of the professional discipline as requirements for facing the first internship experience aimed at orienting the student to the professional areas of reference and the acquisition of basic care skills . 2nd year: aimed at deepening clinical, specialist and assistance pharmacological knowledge to address the most common priority health problems in the medical and surgical field. More internship experiences are foreseen in contexts in which the student can experience the knowledge and techniques learned. 3rd year: mainly aimed at the acquisition of knowledge and methodologies concerning professional practice, the ability to work in teams and in complex organizational contexts. Training activities are planned to develop methodological skills to understand scientific and nursing research also in support of the thesis paper.

Programme learning outcomes

At the end of the three-year course, the graduate will be able to: - manage autonomously and responsibly preventive and assistance interventions aimed at assisted people, the family and the community; - manage nursing care for patients (pediatric, adult and elderly) with acute and chronic respiratory problems, cardio-vascular problems, metabolic and rheumatological problems, acute and chronic kidney problems, acute and chronic gastro-intestinal problems, liver problems, neurological problems, oncological problems, infectious problems, orthopedic and traumatological problems, obstetric-gynecological problems, hematological pathologies, behavioral and cognitive alterations, situations of discomfort / mental disorder; - ascertain and manage nursing care in patients with chronic and disability problems; - manage perioperative nursing care; - ensure the safe administration of therapy and monitor its effectiveness; - manage diagnostic procedures ensuring adequate patient preparation and surveillance following the procedure; - integrate nursing care into the multidisciplinary care project; - assign and supervise the assistance activities to the support staff; - manage the paper and IT information systems supporting the assistance; - document the nursing care provided in accordance with legal and ethical principles; - prepare the conditions for the discharge of the assisted person, in collaboration with the team members; - use professional integration tools (meetings, team meetings, case discussions); - work in an integrated way in the team respecting the spaces of competence; - ensure an effective physical and psychosocial environment for patient safety; - use protection practices against physical, chemical and biological risks in the workplace; - adopt precautions for the manual handling of loads; - adopt strategies for the prevention of infectious risk (standard precautions) in hospital and community structures; - supervise and monitor the clinical and psychosocial situation of patients, identifying early signs of aggravation of the patient; - activate and manage a helping and therapeutic relationship with the user, his family and significant people; - manage welfare processes in respect of cultural, ethnic, generational and gender differences; - support, in collaboration with the team, the client and the family in the terminal phase and in mourning; - activate informal assistance networks to support the user and family in long-term care project

Qualification requirements and regulations

The final exam consists of: - a practical test during which the student must demonstrate that he has acquired the theoretical-practical and technical-operational knowledge and skills specific to the specific professional profile; - drafting of a thesis document which discusses a specific aspect of nursing care. The paper allows to demonstrate the knowledge acquired by the student during the training course, in particular, his / her skills of elaboration, reflection and critical judgment will be highlighted through the development of a clinical / assistance, educational, rehabilitation and ethical type and ethics. For the realization of the thesis, the student will be supervised by a professor of the Degree Course, called Supervisor. The final Degree score is expressed in one hundred and ten (110/110). The minimum mark for passing the final exam is 66/110. The honours can be attributed, with unanimous opinion of the Commission, to the Graduates who achieve a final score greater than or equal to 110.

Examination regulations and grading scale

Assessment is normally an oral or written exam; in some cases there are intermediate exams during the course; other evaluation elements (seminars, reports, etc.) can be foreseen in specific course units and are described in the Course Unit Profiles. The grades for subject exams are measured in thirtieths (0-30 scale), the minimum grade is 18/30 and the maximum grade is 30/30. The maximum grade can be enhanced with “cum laude” (30 cum laude), in case of excellence.Grades are given by an exam commission of at least two teachers, whose President is the chair of the subject. The main exam sessions are held in January/February, March/April, June/July, September/October.Students may retake exams, if not passed. The University provides an ECTS Grading Table, which shows the actual distribution of the examination and final grades among students for each degree programme. The final degree evaluation is expressed in one hundred and tenths (0-110 scale), the minimum grade is 66/110 and the maximum grade is 110/110. The calculation of the final grade of each candidate takes into account the average of the grades obtained in the subject exams, as well as the quality of the work performed in research or in the final thesis which is discussed in public before an exam commission. “Cum laude” (110 cum laude) may be added to the maximum grade if the exam commission decides unanimously.

Obligatory or optional mobility windows

Thanks to the agreements entered into with universities in other European and non-European countries, students of the degree course in nursing can spend a period abroad to study or carry out any traineeship period, in order to get to know other cultures and to compare themselves with other educational systems. Some of our students have completed their internship in Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, Finland, Vietnam and India. This experience plays a fundamental role for the student both in professional and personal training but above all in an employment perspective. In this regard, an information day was organized this year by the Erasmus Manager of the CdS: some students and former students shared their internship experience at the above mentioned locations. A training event that aroused particular interest from the students of the CdS. For some years now, agreements have been consolidated between the University of Perugia and the Thang Long University of Hanoi, with the National Hospital of Acupuncture in Hanoi, Vietnam and with the Saheacci School of Acupuncture, Pune, India. These agreements allow our students to carry out an internship, lasting at least two months, in hospitals of traditional medicine and university hospitals. Student assistance is provided by the Erasmus delegate and by the person in charge of the Degree Course. Assistance consists of: - Promotion of the activity, during the publication period of the call - Orientation in the phase of choosing the venue and construction of the training contract with the host venue - Comparison during the experience - Validation of the path taken at the end of the experience For some years now, there has been an increase in the number of students who decide to carry out a training internship abroad, also for recent graduates; new agreements are under construction for the next academic year.

Work-based learning

The Internship is a teaching method for generating and consolidating the expected skills and developing a professional identity through experience, practice and socialization in the world of work; The activities foreseen by the CdS are: - Activities with Tutor: These are training activities that prepare the student for the experience, it is carried out for students of the first year of the course during the first semester of the Academic year; The objective of such activity is showing the role of the Nurse Professional in the working context; These direct experiences in the field with supervision are carried out in the affiliated structures. The internship experiences are planned by the Head of the didactic and professional activities: FIRST YEAR - Internship in Basic Operating Unit (OU) and services of Medical Area and General Surgical Area, Territorial Services and Home Assistance. SECOND YEAR - Internship in basic Operating Units and specialist medical and surgical areas: First Aid, Cardiology Intensive Care, Operating Rooms, Orthopedics and Traumatology, Urology, Oncology, Day Hospital, Outpatient and Endoscopy Services, Territorial and Home Assistance Services. THIRD YEAR - Internship in basic and specialist operating units, psychiatric services, home care services, in the high specialty services of hospital companies, in particular in the operating units of neurosurgery, spinal unit, cardiac surgery, pediatrics, pediatric intensive care, pediatric oncology, Hematology, bone marrow transplant, geriatrics, infectious diseases, operating block. In addiction, internships are planned for third year students for the preparation of the degree thesis. Clinical Tutors encourage the learning of clinical skills and assist the student during the internship, ensuring the acquisition and achievement of the didactic objectives foreseen by the study path. Clinical tutors contribute to the final evaluation. The CdS offers the opportunity to enrolled students to carry out training placements abroad during the study period through the Erasmus Plus community program (Erasmus Trainership). The CdS accepts the various requests from foreign students for the internship, creating personalized programs.
